However, far to the east, in the Northeastern part of India, there's a hidden gem that's slowly brewing up a storm and captivating taste buds across the country. We're talking about ''Coffee from the Northeast.'' Today, we're focusing on coffee from Assam. Known for its rich tea heritage, Assam is now also producing some truly remarkable coffee. 

Around the '90s, the Soil Conservation Department introduced coffee to the Northeast through states like Meghalaya, Mizoram, and a few other neighbouring states. Assam was one of these states. Ever since this introduction, farmers have been growing coffee in small villages in and around the Dima Hasao District of Assam. 

When we first decided to source coffee, we looked all over Meghalaya. But we knew that even if we scoured the whole of Meghalaya, the requirement wouldn’t be enough. So, we started venturing out into other Northeastern states that might be able to provide us with coffee. 

This search led us to Haflong, Assam. With the help of the Coffee Board of India, we were able to get a hold of some coffee growers’ contacts from Haflong. 

Getting to know these farmers was an eye-opening experience. They shared their stories, their struggles, and their passion for coffee. Many of them had started moving away from coffee cultivation due to the lack of a proper market. They were turning to other crops to sustain themselves and their families. It was then that we decided we had to do something to help. 

We rolled up our sleeves and got to work, building relationships and finding ways to support these dedicated farmers. Our mission was clear: to bring the unique flavors of Assam coffee to the world while helping the local community thrive.
